Side channel pumps are low specific speed machines between positive displacement and centrifugal pumps, dedicated for high pressure (head) and low flow rates. They are simple, robust, self-priming and can be used for pumping entrained gas, but have a limited hydraulic efficiency.
This paper presents a methodology to improve and accelerate the design process by using a surrogate based design approach. As a result, the pump geometry and the corresponding performance curve can be provided in some seconds, starting from the desired duty point.
